Relationship Therapy is for couples who are needing support to navigate issues within their relationships. Some common reasons couples access counselling are:

  • Infidelity;

  • Communication difficulties;

  • Conflict;

  • Managing stressors and change in life e.g. grief, blending families;

  • Changes in the relationship after a baby comes along;

  • Coping with individual mental health needs;

  • Breaking up in an amicable & respectful way;

  • Sexual problems.

I am trained in both Gottman Method and Emotion-Focussed Therapy (EFT) for couples and tend to preference EFT as I find it to be the most effective modality for long term change.

Relationship therapy tends to be a longer term type of therapy with couples attending sessions for 12-18 months on average. Typically we would see each other more frequently to begin with but then move to monthly sessions once things are feeling more settled and stabilised. I work off a 4-session assessment model which means I meet both people for a joint initial assessment, then I see each person for an individual session then hold a follow up couples session. All sessions thereafter would be joint, except in exceptional circumstances.
